M. Eloise McCaleb Williams
M. Eloise McCaleb Williams, 85, of Monument, Colo., formerly of Hubbertville in Fayette County, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at her residence. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at Berea Church of Christ in Fayette County near Hubbertville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Her remains will be interred in the family plot in the Berea Church Cemetery. Miles Funeral Home will direct.

She was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Fayette County, the only daughter of the late William Vaughn McCaleb and Edril Hubbert McCaleb of Hubbertville. She graduated from Hubbertville High School in 1941. After World War II, she married Army Air Corp B-17 pilot Capt. Gerald L. Williams of Birmingham. She was widowed in 1961 as Gerald was killed in Colorado while piloting an Air Force jet for the U.S. Air Force Academy. She later married another Air Force officer, Col. Chet Haas, who died in 2007. She spent the majority of her adult life living near her beloved Air Force Academy where her son, Clarence "Sonny" Williams, attended school as a cadet.

She is survived by her sons, Gerald L. "Jerry" (Sherri Wilson) Williams of Sausalito, Calif., Clarence A. "Sonny" Williams of Monument, Colo. and Allen McCaleb "Mac" Williams of Savannah, Ga.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Candace Foy of San Antonio, Texas; brothers, Clarence A. (Virginia) McCaleb of Winfield, William Vaughn (Lois) McCaleb Jr. of Jasper and Hubbert Steven McCaleb of Hubbertville; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
