Gene Mondaris Tyree, 88, of Mesa AZ, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2010, after a lengthy illness. He was born June 23, 1922, in a log house on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. He lived in Grinnell, Iowa until moving his family to Mesa, Arizona in 1966. He is survived by his son, Larry Tyree and his wife Mary, his son, John Tyree and his wife Julie. He was a cherished grandfather to 4 grandchildren, Tami Hudlin and husband Clint, Thad Tyree, Katie and Natalie Tyree, and 5 great grandchildren, Jacob, Cassidi and Jace Hudlin; Alex and Morgan Tyree. His wife, Barbara of 64 years, daughter Susan, sister, Mildred Symonds and brother, Ernie, precede him in death. Gene was a WWII veteran and founded Tyree Construction Company in 1948. He continued Tyree Construction after moving to Mesa; building custom homes in the East valley until retiring in 1984. Gene was active in the community involved with Mesa ARC, Boy Scouts of America and Red Mountain Multigenerational Center. He loved genealogy and discovering his ancestry and meeting distant relatives on treks across the country. Gene touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Thursday, December 30 at 1:00 pm followed by a 2:00 pm service at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 North MacDonald Street, Mesa.
