Rites Conducted


MIDDLEPORT - Military rites were held for Charles Bennett, who died in North Africa during World War II, Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Middleport.

Surviving close relatives were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bennett; two sisters, Jean and Maxine; and a brother, Warren.

Officiating at the services was the Rev. Ralph Zundel, former pastor here, now of Troy. Special music was by the Rev. Charles M. Pomeroy, and interment was made in Riverview Cemetery, in charge of the Rawlings-Coats.

Pallbearers for the rites were Wallace Russell, Paul Smith, Harold E. Hubbard, James Clatworthy, Robert Craig, John Mitca, Harry Lee Bailey, and Jack Covert. The military escort for the deceased was Sgt. William Young.

Among out-of-town relatives and friends here for the services were Mrs. Warren Stewart, Natalie Stewart, Mrs. J.A. Stephens, Miss Edna Burdette, and Mrs. Carl Hayman, from Leon, W.Va.; Mr. and Mrs. S.D. Lyons and Vandal Lyons, Nitro, W.Va.; Mr. Ira Bennett and Mr. and Mrs. Mace Greenlee from Charleston, W.Va.; Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Raines from Buffalo, W.Va.; Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Stewart and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Stewart from Dunbar, W.Va.; Miss Lillian Greenlee and Miss Irene Sayre from Arbuckle, W.Va.; Mr. and Mrs. Steril Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Horton Ferguson, Miss Claire Ferguson, Andrew Stewart, Mason, W.Va.; and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Bennett from Columbus; Miss Maxine Bennett, and Mrs. H.E. Mitchell Jr., Athens.
