Mrs. Sarah Otis,
Barrington Pioneer
Dies Following Fall
Mrs. Sarah Anna Otis, one of Barrington's oldest residents, died Monday at the Sherman hospital in Elgin from injuries suffered in a fall at her home at Barrington early in the morning of August 17. She suffered a fractured femur near the right hip.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the home with Rev. Charles R. Drussel officiating.
Mrs. Otis was the last of three Barrington residents who were born in Northfield, Ill., in the same year. The other two were John Plagge and Mrs. Emma Lines. Much of her life's span is interwoven with the growth and development of the village. She was a charter member of Lounsbury chapter No. 494, Order of the Easter Star, and her marriage to Charles B. Otis on Nov. 26, 1873, was the first public ceremony performed in the old Methodist church.
Sarah Anna Dearlove was born in Northfield on May 29, 1855, and moved to Barrington with her family when a girl of three years. Except for a short period in Iowa, she made her home in Barrington since that time. She attended the Barrington public schools and the Rockford seminary.
She is survived by four children, Mrs. Maude Robertson of Los Angeles, Calif., Dr. George M. Otis of Chicago, Mrs. Grace Cannon of Barrington and Mrs. Beulah Arnold of St. Charles, Ia.; a brother, C. B. Abbott of Imogene, Ia., seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mrs. Otis was a member of the Baptist church, the W. R. C. and the old Thursday club.
