Iowa Recorder, Greene, Iowa, 17 April 1929, p14. Funeral services for Lemuel Moffatt were conducted at Allison by. Rev. O. B. Preston, Pastor of the Associated Church, Thursday afternoon. Burial was made in the Clarksville cemetery, beside his wife. Lemuel Moffatt was born at Amboy, Illinois, March 8, 1855. He was a son of James and Ellen Moffatt, one of eleven children. He was united in marriage to Eva Hickman {sic Harmon}. They came to Butler County 35 years ago and settled on a farm northeast of Allison. Fifteen years later they moved to Cedar Rapids, where he operated a store. He passed away at the county home on April 10, 1929, death due to gangrene. His wife died in the year 1904. The only child died in infancy. Surviving are two sisters, Eliza Yourze {sic Youtsy} of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Susan Cunningham of Erie, Illinois, and one brother, Cyrus, of Curtis, Nebraska. His father was a Methodist minister.

Lemuel Moffatt was born near Amboy, Illinois, March 8, 1855. His father was a Methodist minister. He died on April 10, 1929, aged 74 years, 1 month, and 2 days.

He was married in 1880 to Evaline Heickman and about thirty-five years ago came to Iowa, where for several years, he farmed in Jackson Township. After the death of his wife in 1904 he went to Nebraska and later to Oklahoma. The only child died in infancy.

He was a heavy man and his limbs becoming disabled he gave up farming, for a while he kept a grocery store in Cedar Rapids. Thirteen years ago he returned to Butler county and being no longer able to work he sought admission to the county home on September 20, 1916, where he was well cared for until the time of his death.

Of his ten brothers and sisters only three survive, Mrs. Eliza Youtzy, of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Susan Cunningham, of Erie, Illinois, and Cyrus Moffatt, of Curtis, Nebraska, George Feltus and Frank Neal of Allison, nephews, are the only relatives now living in this vicinity. Mr. Moffatt was a generous, friendly man, retaining an interest in his fellows and in world affairs until very recently.

About February 1st, gangrene developed in his left foot which soon brought on his end. His funeral was held at the Jungkunz undertaking rooms at 2 p.m., April 11, with Rev. O.B. Preston in charge. Interment took place in his family lot in Lynwood cemetery, Clarksville, beside his wife and sister, Mary Greenan.
