The Rev. Elgin L.D. Berry

Rev. Elgin L. D. Berry, 74 and wife Susie Jane Simerly Berry, 73, Hampton went home to be with their Lord on Saturday March 12, 2011 as the results of an automobile accident near Jones-borough.

Rev. Berry was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Arthur and Letha Willis Berry. He was a retired employee of Snap-On-Tool, Elizabethton. He was ordained to the Ministry in 1965 and he had served as Pastor of several Free Will Baptist Church in the East Tennessee Area. He was currently pastor of the Sunrise Free Will Baptist Church, Roan Mountain. He was a member of the Fairview Free Will Baptist Church. Rev. Berry had served as Moderator and held several positions of the Toe River Free Will Baptist Association. He and Susie were married July 5, 1955.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a great grandson: Houston Murphy, two sisters: Trina Berry and Beulah White and two brothers: Roy and William Robert Berry.

Survivors include a Daughter: Reda Berry and her fiancé Callis, Kingsport. One Son & Daughter-in-Law: Allen Wayne & Patricia Berry, Waynesboro, Pa. Five Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren: Four Sisters: Daisy Hodge, Morristown, Stella Benfield, Morganton, North Carolina, Susie Sneed and Trula Berry both of Elizabethton. Four Brothers: Harold Berry, N. Wilkesboro, NC., Clifford Berry, Marion, North Carolina, Troy Berry and Mack Berry both of Elizabethton. Several Nieces & Nephews.

Susie Jane Simerly Berry was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Jacob and Pearl Johnson Simerly. She was a homemaker. She was involved in the Ministry with her husband. She was a member of the Fairview Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a great grandson: Houston Murphy.

Survivors include a daughter Reda Berry and her fiancé Callis, Kingsport. A Son & Daughter-in-law: Allen Wayne & Patricia Berry, Waynesboro, Pa.. 5 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren. One Brother: John Henry Simerly, Roan Mountain.

Double Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2011 in the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Dexter Brummitt, Rev. Danny Osborne and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Marcy 17, 2011 in the Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery (Browns Branch Road, Hampton) with the Rev. Randy English and Rev. Charlie Trivett officiating. Music will be provided by the Sunrise Singers. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday and at Memorial Funeral Chapel at 10:15 a.m. Thursday will be Fellow Ministers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of the Congregations that L.D. & Susie have served during his years of ministry, Ministers of the Toe River Association, friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
