Robert married Margaret Leek Brinlee on Sept. 15, 1856. Marriage was performed by G.Y. McKinney, J.P. of Collin County, Texas. Robert was a farmer who raised cotton, corn hegari, and canes. His father-in-law, Hiram Brinlee, deeded 49 acres to him when he and Margaret were married. Margaret and the children would pick the cotton, harvest the corn, and strip the cane for making sorghum syrup. All the children were born in Stoney Point Community in Collin Co, a community northeast of McKinney. His children were all well educated. Robert Brown Sims had attended college in Jackson, Mississippi.
Robert B. Sims served as Pvt. Co. H. Anderson's Regiment, Texas Cavalry, CSA. In private life he struggled heroically against tremendous handicaps to produce food and fiber for his family. His farm was located on Sister Grove Creek Bottoms. He also raised hogs, cattle, mules, chickens, and horses. He was also a carpenter by trade.
On Feb. 18, 1861, he was appointed by court to be the overseer of the Lower Bonham Road Precinct No. 2. He was assigned hands for performance of road work.
For some reason, he was separated from his family and living with another near Stony Point when an argument arose and he was hit in the head and killed.
