The 4th of February, 1994; the day which marked the arrival of our precious gift, Darryl. No one would have expected that this was a gift that could only be kept by our sides for almost 3 years and 5 months. Nonetheless, Darryl gave us more than we can ask for in this short time that he was here. He taught us many things and gave us the most beautiful of memories to keep for rest of our lives. In his own way, he has made himself a gift we can keep for good.

Darryl took delight in very simple things in life. He was a hyperactive and outgoing boy who enjoyed going out, even if it was just a walk in the garden. He also loved playing sand and plucking grass. Most of all, he enjoyed mini-car rides and would take each and every single one available again and again. His dad remembers him most fondly the way he used to chase the birds outside his Gramp's shop which he visited almost every weekend.

Darryl was extremely intelligent and quick beyond his age, often surprising people around him with the speed at which he picked up things. He was also cheeky and humorous in his own way. Every once in a while, he would display his "music talents" by humming an unknown tune and saying, "This is new song".

Like every other person, Darryl has his quiet side, though it was impossible to see how he could be quiet when he was "Darryl the Menace". He loved nursery rhymes and Sesame Street shows and knew all the characters at the back of his palm: Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Grover, Ernie, Bernie, The Count, Telly, he loved them all. During the last 9 months of his stay with us during which he could no longer keep up with his hyperactivity, these characters became his great companions.

Other things that may seem insignificant to others but which are Darryl's "gems" are his bolster and his favorite foods which include gummies, lollipops and fruit juices. In short, Darryl was a really special boy who is well-loved by all who have encountered him.

The day, 5 October, 1996, marked the turning point of the life of this special boy, the day we learnt of the residence of this beast called Brain Stem Glioma in his brain. His physical well-being moved downhill very quickly and after 9 months of courageous battle, we lost our precious gift on 27 June, 1997. While we are saddened by his departure, we are eternally grateful for the wonderful moments he has made possible.

Within our hearts, Darryl remains forever......
