The son of John Henry Drinning and Nancy Jane "Nannie" Anderson, "Walter" was married to Pearly Oda May Hunt on 15 Jan 1903 in St. Clair County, Illinois.

They were the parents of at least 3 children, although 2 died in very early childhood. before their marriage ended in divorce.

Walter married Dora Tins on 03 Dec 1914 in Jefferson County, Missouri. He was 36-years-old at the time of their marriage, and Dora was 16.

By the late 1910's, Walter worked as a laborer for W. A. Jones. He lived in Melzo, Jefferson County, Missouri.

He reported on his World War I draft papers that he had lost his right leg below the knee, making him ineligible for military service. He said that his nearest relative at that time was his son, Wesley Drinning, of Carthage, Hancock County, Illinois.

He worked as a laborer in the 1930's and lived in Pevely, Jefferson County, Missouri.

In late February of 1937, Walter was walking along Highway 67 near East St. Louis, St. Clair County, Illinois. 2 passing cars crashed and 1 of them struck Walter, killing him. His body was identified on 28 Feb 1937 by 2 of his siblings.

According to Illinois death records, he died at Canteen, Illinois in St. Clair County on 25 Feb 1937. Newspaper accounts give his date of death as 26 Feb 1937.

Walter was buried on 03 Mar 1937.

Body That of William W. Drinning,
55, of Pevely, Mo.


The body of a man killed by an automobile last Friday on United States Highway 67, near East St. Louis, was identified yesterday as that of William W. Drenning [sic], 55 years old, of Pevely, Mo. Identification was made by a sister, Mrs. Dora Brown, 1314 Boyle avenue, and a brother, John W. Drinning, 3219 Morganford road.

Drinning was walking along the road when two automobiles collided, and one of them rolled over him.
