Catherine was born in Fayette County, Illinois to Martha Jane Hicks and Elliott Wilburn Rhodes. She married Elzey M. Cole on September 2, 1869. They lived for several years in Hurricane Township, Illinois and had several children. They lived for a time in Kansas, where their last children were born. They also lived in Oklahoma territory. Catherine died in Texas. Several of her sons had moved to Humble and were working in the oil fields there so it is presumed she moved with one of them.
