Southern Historical Research Magazine (1937) by Worth S. Ray, p. 124: "Samuel R. Evans moved to Georgia and was a member of the Legislature of that State in 1834-1844. From there the family moved to Mississippi before coming to Texas."

"Buried at the old First Street cemetery where his son Andrew Jackson Evans, member of the Seventh Texas Legislature, is interred."
His marker has been long gone, and his name does not appear either in the 1962 cemetery survey or the one done in the 1990s by the Boy Scouts.

Samuel R. Evans wrote an interesting memoir of his father's and grandfather's military service and experiences during the Revolutionary War.

"Samuel R. Evans and Mary moved from Abbeville Co., SC to Georgia, and then on to MS in 1841. Before 1850 they and several of their children moved to Texas settling near the Beaumont and Waco areas. Four of their children stayed in MS becoming prominent in the history of Chickasaw County, MS."
