A memorial service was held for Ensign Robert W. Trethric, U.S.N.R. age 23, at the Congregational Church in Antioch, conducted by Rev. Herbert Dimock.
Robert is the son of Dorrance and Dorothy Trethric of Antioch, California.
---
During an Anti-Submarine Warfare exercise at approximately 1208 on 12 Apr 1954, the Grumman AF-3S aircraft which Robert was piloting, flying off the U.S.S. Rendova, crashed into the sea at Latitude 29-30N and Longitude 133-17E, southeast of Japan. The cause of the accident was not determined. However, debris that was recovered positively identified the aircraft. Thorough and prolonged search failed to produce Robert's body (or the bodies of his two crew members). It is presumed that he was killed on impact with the sea.

From Bob's brother, R.J. Trethric.
