She remembers that food was very scarce, and they had to hide everything of value to keep it from being stolen by wandering bands of soldiers and guerillas. Emma remembers hiding in the attic once when a band of guerillas came. The family moved by ox team to homestead in Humboldt, Allen Co., Kansas. Milton and Emma drove the cattle on foot most of the way.

Emma Elizabeth Jamison, daughter of Joseph H. and Margaret Jamison, was born in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania on September 9, 1857, departing this life at her home in Darrouzett, Texas, May 26, 1941, aged 83 years, 8 months and 17 days.
When a small child she with her parents moved to the west locating first near Warsaw, Missouri. In 1870 the family moved to a homestead near Humboldt, Kansas where she grew to womanhood.
At an early age she was converted and united with the United Brethren Church of which she remained a faithful member for many years, later changing to the Methodist Church when it was organized in Darrouzett, where she continued to work for the up building of Christ's Kingdom until she suffered a paralytic stroke and was confined to her room for seven years.
On October 26, 1876 she was united in marriage with Oscar H. Lash; they made their home near Humboldt, Kansas until 1910 when they came to Beaver County, Oklahoma and later to Darrouzett, Texas.
On October 26, 1926 they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. Mr. Lash passed away April 29, 1927. To this union twelve children were born, three of who died in early childhood, a daughter Mrs. Irene Russell passing away March 2, 1927, a son Roy H. Lash, on March 14, 1933, and another daughter, Mrs. Ethel Ludlum, August 8, 1939.
The surviving children are George M. Lash of Follett, Texas; Frank S. of Cannon City, Colorado; J. Homer of Elsmore, Kansas; Harry D. of Burbank, California; Mrs. Cora Crawford of Fall River, Kansas; Mrs. Maude Roper of Darrouzett, Texas; twenty-six grand children and twenty-one great grand children. Two sisters survive Mrs. Dora Murphy of Pharr, Texas, and Mrs. Josie Hennigh of Follett, Texas.
Mrs. Lash was always ready to lend a helping hand to everyone. She was a devoted wife, a loving conscientious mother, a good neighbor and friend.
We loved her yes, we loved her
But Jesus loved her more,
And he sweetly called her
To yonder shining shore.
The golden gates were opened wide
A gentle voice said, "Come"
A nd with farewell unspoken
She calmly entered Home.
