[death of Col. Alfred Harrison as reported in Haynesville Chronicle]
"The spirit of Mr. Harrison had scarcely departed from its earthly tabernacle, when that of James S. [M…. pursuit(?)]. He died Tuesday morning, after an illness of over two weeks.—Mr. Meriwether was about 40 years of age, and at the time of his death was Sheriff of Lowndes county, of which he had been a citizen since early youth. We doubt if he leaves any enemy behind him, though his friends are everywhere."
