COUPLE DIES WHEN AUTO HITS TRAIN
Jack H. Cutts, former Fairfield resident and his wife, Thelma, were killed Saturday when their car struck a freight train at a grade crossing in Camanche.
Services for Mr. and Mrs. Cutts are tentatively planned Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic church here. Rites will be conducted by the Rev. Fr. Francis Henricksen. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery.
The rosary will be recited Tuesday at the Raymond Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday.
Mr. And Mrs. Cutts had been residents of Comanche for three years. Cuts was a foreman at the Butler Dairy Pak Co. In Clinton.
Packed snow caused the Cutts car to skid into a locomotive of 122 car Chicago North Eastern railroad train. Mrs. Cutts 29, was thrown 40 feet from the wreckage and died instantly. Cutts, 32, died 2 hours later in a Clinton hospital.
Cutts was reared and educated in Fairfield, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. The son of Howard and Helen (Kennedy) Cutts, he married July 11, 1950 to Thelma Black. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield. He made his home in Ottumwa for nine years before moving to Comanche.
Cutts is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cutts, 903 W. Grimes, Fairfield,; the following brothers and sister, Robert and Dan Cutts of Ottumwa, Larry, Kenneth, and Tom Cutts of Fairfield and Mary Helen Cutts of Fairfield. Also surviving, his grandmother, Mrs. Harry Kennedy of Fairfield.
