James H. Curry was the son of Ezekiel Curry and Nancy (Currey) Curry. On Aug. 30, 1850, he married Eleanor P. Long in Wilson County, Tennessee. Two sons were born to James and Eleanor; Newton and John N.

James enlisted on April 27, 1861 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and served with Company A, 2nd Regiment Tennessee Infantry during the Civil War. According to military records, he was taken prisoner during the Stone River Battle in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and died of a gun shot wound in the chest on Jan. 1, 1863.
