Wes was the eldest son of Gavin and his first wife, Elizabeth "Libby"(Moore)Stephen. He was born in Manitoba in 1896. His mother died in 1900 when he was not quite 4, leaving him, his younger brother George and an infant sister Allie (who only lived a few months)in the care of his grieving father. His father remarried in 1905 to his Mom's cousin Jemima "Mima" Webb, and they subsequently moved to Saskatchewan where two sisters were added to the family. (Iola and Netta). Wes was married twice and from his second marriage in 1935 to "Gussie" Biendarra he had four children;Freda,Annabelle (Jim Arkinstall),John, and George (Bonnie) as well as four from "Gussie"'s first marriage;Edna (James Harding),Pauline(Frank Gibney), Margaret (Had Aseltine), and Bill. Wes passed away in Kamloops in 1956, and is buried in the Hillside Cemetery there.
