A MAN CALLED FORD
Twas Christmas Day in the house of the Lord,
There were poor men and Kings--and a man called Ford.
There were a few of the talented and the great,
Those of society and the silver plate.
But, there were many in the house of the lord,
Like this man Dempsey called Ford.
Here was a man of little renown,
A man called Daddy, who wore no crown.
He was a man who liked to take a drink,
But a man to respect, I think.
He shouldered responsibility--his and others;
Loved his family and some black men called brothers.
Beyond the Biblical three score and ten, Ford Marshall Dempsey had a coffee can.
His years of life were long--72,
Oh! Did I say he dipped snuff, too?
His was a life that was sometimes hard,
A man, and his dog, who liked a garden in the yard.
He was no Emperor or King or writer of 'My Gal Sal',
Ford was just Friend, Husband, Daddy---our pal.
