Jonas Hill
April 4, 1946
Jonas Samuel Hill was born Feb. 23, 1875 in Dayton, Virginia and died peacefully at his home in Chatsworth Wednesday morning at 6 o'clock, age 71 years, 10 months and 20 days. His death was caused by heart failure, which was followed by a stroke while working in the garden last week Friday. This attack left him unconscious from which he never recovered.
When a young man he came to Illinois and worked on a farm near Cullom. He was married to Mary Ann Ellinger Nov. 27, 1901, which union was blessed with eight children. In 1913 the family moved to Chatsworth. Here he found work of various types and finally joined the maintenance force of the Illinois Central railroad for which company he worked for 25 years, which entitled him to his pension.
With a large family to rear, his life has been one of toil and care, and in spite of difficult times a commendable family spirit has been developed.
He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved life's companion and the children as follows: Mrs. Gladys Baker of Bradley, IL; Mrs Elizabeth Baker of Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Lottie Bowman of Chicago; John of Clinton, Tennessee; Clifford, Clement, Albert and Kenneth, all at home; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at 2:00 at the Evangelical church with Rev. J.V. Bischoff officiating. Interment will be at the Chatsworth cemetery.
