ROBERT EVANS GISSENDANNER
PINCKARD. . .Robert Evans Gissendanner, a resident of Pinckard, went to his heavenly reward, Friday morning, March 11, 2011, at his home. He was 83.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Monday, March 14, 2011, in the Pinckard United Methodist Church, where he and his beloved wife were married sixty-four years ago, with Reverend Anthony Tutor officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinckard Memorial Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pinckard United Methodist Church "Parsonage Fund", P.O. Box 439, Pinckard, AL. 36371.
Mr. Gissendanner was a native and lifelong resident of Pinckard, son of the late Evans and Ruby Jones Gissendanner. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After his military service, he returned home and married his childhood sweetheart, Helen Pilcher. They became a college couple at the University of Alabama. Upon returning to Pinckard, Mr. Gissendanner managed the family farm. He was formerly employed by the State of Alabama, Weights and Measures Division in the Department of Agriculture and retired at the age of seventy-two as Chief Inspector.
Mr. Gissendanner was a very devoted family man. He loved animals of all kinds and could entertain for hours telling stories of his pets from years past. Mr. Gissendanner always saw the good in people, never speaking ill of anyone. He leaves us with wonderful life lessons and memories that will bring smiles to our faces. Mr. Gissendanner was member of the Pinckard United Methodist Church. He put in many volunteer hours riding with his late friend and cousin, Max King, as a member of the Alabama State Troopers Auxiliary.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Helen Pilcher Gissendanner, two daughters, Gayle Gissendanner Kenyon, Linda Gissendanner Harvey (C.L.), all of Pinckard; grandchildren, Sherri Johnson (Mike), Elizabeth and Clayton Kenyon, Teri Stewart (Rickey), Chris Harvey (Laura); great-grandchildren, Nicholas Kenyon, Bryan, Jake and Elizabeth Harvey, Victoria and Olivia Stewart.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Joey Pilcher, Dr. Alan Adams, Bobby Henderson, Corky Adams, Keith Windham, Kim King and Randy Fulmar.
The family would like to thank Home Helpers for sending Cassandra Knight to care for our loved one as if he were her own father. She is a God send to our family and will always be considered a member of our family. A special thanks to Covenant Hospice for stepping in and guiding us through this home going of our loved one.
