Statesboro - James M. Mallard, 56, died Saturday in the Bulloch County Hospital after a short illness. The Bulloch County native was a World War II veteran and had been employed by a dry cleaning firm and was the equipment manager at Hanner Fieldhouse at Georgia Southern College.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cleo E. Mallard of Statesboro; a sister, Mrs. Earl Hutto of High Point, N.C.; and a brother, W. W. Mallard of Fort Pierce, Fla.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Statesboro First Baptist Church with burial in the East Side Cemetery. Smith-Tillman Mortuary is in charge.
