Philipsburg- James Raymond Gearhart, 69, of 220 Spruce St., Philipsburg, was announced dead-on-arrival at the Philipsburg State General Hospital yesterday, Oct. 9, at 9:30 a.m. Mr. Gearhart reportedly suffered a heart attack while working at the way Fruit Farm, Port Matilda R.D.
Mr. Gearhart had owned and operated a retail grocery store at Philipsburg for a number of years. Following his retirement from the grocery business, he worked at the former Electric Supply Co. at Philipsburg.
Born March 28, 1898, at West Decatur, he was a son of the late John Wesley and West Anna (McDowell) Gearhart. He was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church, Hope Fire Company No. 2 and United Commercial Travlers Council 621, all of Philipsburg.
In 1919 Mr. Gearhart married the former Irene Shaw who survives along with three daughters: Mrs. Troy Boone of Mentor Ohio; Mrs. Harold Holmes of Ravenna, Ohio; and Mrs. Howard Umberger of Quakertown; six grandchildren: and two sisters. Mrs. W. W. Wrigley of Clearfield and Mrs. James A. Kurtz of West Decatur.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Dahlgren Funeral Home, Philipsburg, in charge of the Rev. Stratford C. Taylor. Interment will be in Mocks Hill Cemetery at West Decatur.
Friends will be received in the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow until the hour of service.
