Born 21 Feb 1864 in Nykil, Östergötland, Sweden. Parents were Carl Johan Josephsson or Uhlan and Johanna Carolina Olofsdotter. (Uhlan was the Swedish military surname for the father.)
Married Emilie Sofia Jacobsson (1867-1901)on 23 Mar 1895 in St. Ansgarius Church located in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. August and Emilie were the parents of two sons, Herman William CARLSON and Raymond Albin CARLSON.
After Emilie died in 1901, August married Helena Mathilda Erickson (1854-1934) around 1903.
About 1907, August, "Tilda", and the two sons moved near Taylors Falls, in Chisago County, Minnesota where they farmed for many years.
Later, August and his wife sold the farm and retired to Lindstrom. They lived on Elm Street until their respective deaths in 1941 and 1934.

Funeral Held Today.
"August Carlson, 77 year old Lindstrom resident, passed away Monday at the home of his son, Herman Carlson in Minneapolis. Mr. Carlson's death came rather unexpectedly and was received with surprise by his friends here. Cancer was the cause of his demise."
"Services were held today from the Grandstand Funeral Home in Center City with Theodore Englund as speaker. Albin Westin of Minneapolis served as singer."
"Mr. Carlson leaves his two sons, Herman of Minnapolis and Ray Carlson of Spooner, Wisconsin. No details were reported concerning his early life, but these it is hoped will be available for next week's Press. Mr. Carlson was well known in Lindstrom."
