Ashley was the son of John Q. and Emily S. (Tobine) Gault. He had siblings Laura E., John C., Henry L., Mary E., Katie I., Rosa A. and Iver and half sibligs Lewis W., George E., Willard H. and Sydney N. His father was a Civil War Soldier and his Uncle Samuel was killed in the war.

Added by BL Hughes: Ashley Gault was badly burned this week. He works for Dr. Huckins and was asleep in one of the camps where the mill is, and the camp in some way caught fire. Before Ashley could get out of the house he was badly burned. His clothing and other personal belongings were burned up and the camp destroyed. The Ashland Citizen, February 3, 1917, p2.
