Son of George Washington Fly & Winford Ann Eliza Lacy. John married Margaret Eudora Hicks Dec 20, 1874 in Hickman Co. TN.
Death was from influenza.

I received this note yesterday about his middle name so it’s being changed to Skelton. See the Bible page on his father’s memorial.

RE: John Shelton Fly
He was my mother-in-law's grandfather. She and her siblings always said that the name was Skelton, which is a surname of the area. The Family Bible pages were passed through the Fly Family to my husband. Thus I had the originals to read. The name has been a debate over the years. Other branches of the family knew it as Skelton. The mother was Winford Lacy. There is a John Skelton Lacy of the time period in Tennessee. Descendants who thought it was Shelton, used Shelton as the name of descendants. Thus adding to the confusion whether the name is Skelton or Shelton. It is my belief that my mother-in-law and her siblings knew their grandfather's middle name. The tombstone only has John S. Fly. I live close to the two Fly cemeteries and have visited both since the 1990s.
