MRS. MARY FRANCES BROWN THE ARCADIAN 8/21/1942;

Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Frances Brown, were held Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock at the Van Petten Funeral Home, with Rev. Paul Goodner conducting. Interment was in Joshua Creek Cemetery, and the following acted as pallbearers: Dr. H. P. Bevis, George Stonebraker, A. M. Hendry, W. L. Woods, John Scott and A. I. Roe.
Mrs. Brown, who was 88 years old, was born in St. Joseph, La. But had made her home here most of the time during the last ten years. Up until several weeks ago, she had made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Frank Wittbecker, but had been at the home of another daughter, Mrs. W. P. Tucker, at whose home death occurred Tuesday morning about 11 o’clock.

Mrs. Brown was the widow of David Sims Brown, Confederate Veteran, and was a charter member of the Eastern Star chapter at Bastrop, La. She is a direct descendent of the former President of the United States, James Monroe.

Besides the two daughters here she is survived by three grandchildren, Tom Bell of Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. Mary Frances Holtzlaw of Boston, Mass. And Miss Barbara Wittbecker of Arcadia.
