well known retired farmer of near Wolfsville, died Monday night at Washington County Hospital, after a short illness, aged 83 years.
He was a native of the Wolfsville community, a son of the late Henry C. and Susan Johnson Hayes.
Surviving are three children, Lloyd E. Hayes and Mrs. Helen Pike, both of Smithsburg; Mack Hayes, Philadelphia; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Oscar Hayes, near Wolfsville; William Hayes, near Garfield; John Hayes, Westminster; a sister, Mrs. Mollie Minnick, Reid.
Remains rest at the funeral home in Myersville. Funeral services will be held there Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in Smithsburg Cemetery. Paul F. Bittle, funeral director.
