Alfred L. Heller, 86, Shullsburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 1994, at Mercy Health Center, Dubuque, Iowa. He was born Oct. 22, 1907, at Galena, Ill., the son of Henry and Edith (Bodell) Heller. He married Alice Gensler at Dubuque. She died in 1947. He married Fern L. Redfern March 29, 1951 at Dubuque.
Alfred lived in the Shullsburg area most of his life and farmed in White Oak Township before managing the Mobil Station in Shullsburg for 13 years, retiring in 1971. He was a Shullsburg alderman from 1960-65, then became mayor of Shullsburg from 1965-78. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Shullsburg. He loved to play baseball and enjoyed listening to the Dodgers. Survivors include his wife, at home; a stepson, Robert Moore, rural Darlington; three step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 16, 1994, at Centenary United Methodist Church, Shullsburg. The Rev. Glenn E. Skatrud officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Shullsburg. Pallbearers were Ron Schardt, Carl Pahnke, Dean Gerht, Ron Hancock, David "Skip" Lawrence and Robert Farrey. The O'Flahrity-Erickson Funeral Home, Shullsburg, was in charge of arrangements.

"RESOLUTION TO COMMEND THE YOUNG PEOPLE CARING ORGANIZATION
"WHEREAS, there has been formed within the community an organization known as 'The Young People Caring.'
"AND, WHEREAS, this organization helps both the young and older citizens of this community.
"AND, WHEREAS, it is most gratifying to see that some of the young people of the community care enough about their fellowman [sic] to offer there [sic] services to help others.
"NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council does hereby recommend that the citizens of this community support and take advantage of the services offered by this organization.
