Clarence (Bogie) Paulsen, 89, of Coal City, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center with his family at his side. Born July 23, 1921, in Davenport, Iowa, he was the son of the late Emil and Edith (Healey) Paulsen.

He attended the St. Alphonsus School prior to moving to Orland Park, Il. where he was inducted into the U.S. Army Sept. 21, 1942 and was part of the Normandy Campaign during which he became a prisoner of war. He was a Bronze Star recipient.

Bogie was a lifetime member of St. Juvin VFW Post l336.

After retiring from Illinois Department of Transportation he enjoyed working in his tomato garden and cooking.

He is survived by his wife, Lorna, of 55 years. He was the devoted father of daughters Lori (Dave) Peterson, Diana and sons, Craig (Jodie), Bradley,and Dirk. Loving grandfather of eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews.

At Bogie's request there will be no wake or funeral service.

A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood March 9, 2011, with full military honors. Rev. Avery Wilson officiating.

Family will receive friends at the Celebration of Life reception from 4 - 6 p.m. on Wednesday March 9, 2011,at the Diamond Banquet Hall, 55 Daley St. Diamond.
