Poseyville News dated August 29, 1924:
Mrs. Thomas Murphy died very suddenly at 2 o'clock Friday morning at her home north west of town of apoplexy. Mrs. Murphy had not been very well, but the morning of her death was up and had just lighted the coal oil stove when death stole upon her. Jane Elizabeth Fitzgerrell, daughter of Stanton and Nancy Fitzgerrelll, was born on the Fitzgerrell homestead and had she lived would have been seventy-three years of age in September. She united in marriage to Thomas Murphy on reaching womanhood. The deceased was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist church and lived her life according to its tenets. The husband, two sons, Elmer and Stanton, one daughter, Mrs. Howard Price, a brother Louis Fitzgerrell and eighteen grandchildren survive her. The funeral was held at the home Sunday morning and the sermon was preached by Elder A.A. Shoultz of Owensville. The remains were laid to rest in the Fitzgerrell cemetery.
