Nevils - Durward T. Kennedy, 73, died Tuesday at Bulloch Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

The Bulloch County native was a retired police officer and a retired employee of Brooks Instruments. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Kennedy, Nevils; two daughters, Carolyn K. Elrod, St. Simons Island, and Joyce K. Westberry, Brunswick; one stepdaughter, Glenda Scott Corrigan, Green Bay, Wis.; three stepsons, Jerald D. Scott, Walter E. Scott and Donald G. Scott, all of Statesboro; three sisters, Frances Dwor, Albuquerque, N.M., Mary Jean Turner, Griffin, and Earldene Hughes, Savannah; two brothers, William "Bill" Kennedy, Claxton, and Charles Kennedy, Earp, Calif.; four grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Smith-Tillman Mortuary with the Rev. Joe Eason and Dr. W. Max Alderman officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.
