Alice B. Brosz 82 of Wessington Springs died Friday morning Oct. 9, 2009 at the Weskota Manor/Avera Health. Her funeral service was held at 3:00 PM Friday October 16, 2009 at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Jan Price officiating. Interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Alice Bernice Winter was born on February 21, 1927 in Hand County to Reinhold and Mileta (Tiede) Winter. She attended country school and graduated from Alpena High School in 1945.

On January 26, 1947 she was united in marriage to Melvin Brosz and to this union three daughter were born Brenda, Faye and Becky. They lived near Alpena until 1953 when they moved to a small farm near Wessington Springs. In 1962, they moved into Wessington Springs.

For more than 20 years, Alice was employed as the head cook and then the nutrition director at Weskota Manor. After resigning from that position, she and her husband worked as relief managers for Motel 6 for several years before returning to Wessington Springs. She was then a cook at the Senior Center. Later she worked at the Variety and True Value stores.

Alice had a love for music as well and she shared her musical talents as a church choir director and accompanist, accompanist for students in music contests, a choir member, a member of the Human Flag, the singing Grammies and recently she provided music to the residents at Weskota Manor once a month.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and Legion Auxiliary.

Slice was a wonderful cook and made many delicious desserts like her rhubarb torte and her kuchen treats that were enjoyed by many.

Alice's love of family was her first priority. She had a great sense of humor, a ready smile and a quick wit and a twinkle in her eye.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin in 2006, and two brothers Elden in 1975 and Vernon Winter in 2009 one sister-in-law Mary Winter in 2005 a son-in-law Richard Miller, a step grandson Ross Bak and many uncles and aunts and her father and mother-in-law Bill and Emma Brosz.
