Franklin Shives, of Newark, DE, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend passed away on March 4, 2011.
Frank was born in Hancock, MD, September 6, 1933. He was the son of Mary (Hoffman) Shives and Leo Shives. He was a Korean Air Force veteran and a skilled aircraft mechanic – retiring from The Boeing Company.
Frank loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends. Frank had a great sense of humor and was always the pillar of wisdom and righteousness. Frank touched many lives with his kindness, intellect and eagerness to help others. He will be dearly missed by all.
Frank is survived by his son Marcus Shives of North East, MD; daughter, Kathy Shives and her husband Dan Litwa of Newark, DE. He is also survived by his sister, Orpha (Shives) Lancaster of Cumberland, MD; grandchildren, Jamie Shives, Amy (Shives) Friend, Deliah Poore and Daniel Litwa; great grandchildren, Victoria Shives, Trinity Shehan, Zachary Shives, Jacob Shives; and his beloved cat, Tiki.
Visitation will be held from 11 am – 1 pm on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE. His funeral service will follow at 1 pm. Military burial will be in Northeast United Methodist Cemetery in North East, MD.
Frank is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Nancy (Spade) Shives; parents Mary Hoffman and Leo Shives; and sister Joyce (Shives) Fisher.
