MRS. SARAH E. BRAYTON
Mrs. Sarah E. Brayton 83, widow of the late B.H. Brayton died at her home in Hartford, Friday morning November 5. She was the daughter of the late Manuel and Laura McDonald and a life-long resident of the town where her forefathers were early settlers. Her great-grand father was Israel Harris of Revoluntionary fame, for whom the Granville Chapter of D.A.R. is named. Always devoted to the Arts she spent much of her leisure time in painting and was an artist of considerable note. Her love for flowers developed into an interesting hobby and her garden was well known to her friends and neighbors and evidenced by their loving remembrance to her during her declining days and following her to her final resting place. In her early days she was an active spirit in commnity life, always ready to assisting the welfare of the town. And ministering to all needy situations and her talented efforts were always gladly given. In her later years she was fondly known to the younger generation with whom she loved to mingle, as Mother Brayton. She was a member of the Women's Society of the M.E. Church, a life member of Anolia Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, the Washington County Garden Club and the Study Hour club. She is survived by two daughters Mary and Laura, son George L. Brayton of Hartford NY. One sister Helen R. Andress, Saratoga Springs: one brother Charles N. McDonald of Poultney and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late George H. McDonald of Granville. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 3PM Rev. R.E. Dunekel, Pastor of the M.E. Church of Sharon Springs, officiating, assisted by Rev. Milo Earnard, Pastor of M.E. Church and were largely attended by family and friends. The bearers were Frank J. Palmer, Johnstown: Charles Statia, L. Berry Taylor, Hudson Falls, Henry Brayton, Leslie Thompson and Ralph McKernon, Hartford. Internment was in the Morning Side Cemetery.
