Services for Granville C. Carter, age 86, of Bessie, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Kern-Schneider-Kiesau Memorial Chapel with Rev. W.H. Heath and Rev. Earl Stephenson officiating.
Burial was in the Union Hatchett Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Hobbs-Ogle-Power American Legion Post 41.
Carter died Sunday morning in the Clinton Regional Hospital. He was a long time resident and farmer of the Bessie area, having lived there for 47 years.
Carter was a veteran of World War I. He served in France. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion and a member of the Hobbs-Ogle-Power Post 41 of Clinton.
He married the former Rachel Belter in 1921.
He is survived by his wife, Rachael, of the home; five daughters, Mrs. Alphon (Dorotha) Dudgeon of Moore, Mrs. Randall (Mildred) West of Carthage, Tenn., Mrs. Corky (Opal) Allen and Mrs. Lowell (Margaret) Sorter of Clinton, Mrs. Gayle Pilkington of Sallisaw; five sons, Otis Carter of Cordell, Vernon Carter of Hobart, Curtis Carter of Bessie, Nolan Carter of Clinton, Montell Carter of Grapevine, Tex.; one sister, Ola McLarty of Seymore, Tex., 41 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Military rites were conducted.
