I A worked in coal mine but always financially strapped. He married Etta Florence Shelor on March 4, 1904 in Indian Valley, VA. They had 3 children: Martha (Alva), Fredrick and Gracie. I A moved his young family to Illinois and he farmed some land there. Times weren't much better so in 1916 he moved his family to South Dakota near the beautiful Lake Traverse South of Rosholt, SD. Three more children were born to them: Thomas Arthur, Bessie Mae and Doris Etta. I A was a successful farmer and died of cancer in 1958.
