Issac Newton Bennett

Isaac N. Bennett was born the 28th day of October, 1849, in Boone County; died at 11:30 o'clock, July 17th, 1894, aged 44 years, 8 months and 9 days. He was married to Mary Walker on June 8th, 1873; they lived together 21 years, 1 month and 10 days. To them were born seven children, five boys and two girls, who survive him. They lived in Boone County eight years, immediately following their marriage, then moved to Danville, Illinois, where they remained for six years and while there, united with the Methodist church. From Danville, they moved to Covington, Indiana, at which place they remained until about eighteen months ago when they came to Lebanon where he died.

Mr. Bennett throughout his entire life was a kind and affectionate husband and father and no man ever lived who showed more devotion to his family. He was always kind and considerate toward his neighbors in sickness or affliction. He was strong and healthy until eight weeks ago when he was attacked with inflammatory rheumatism which resulted in blood poisoning and death. During the eight weeks of excruciating pain and suffering he exercised the highest degree of christian fortitude and patience, not a murmur of impatient expression having passed his lips. Several days ago he realized that he would never recover and that death was only a question of a very short time. He repeatedly expressed himself as being prepared for death and said that he was willing to go and that he was going to meet his dear old mother who had died 28 years ago and a his brother who was lost in defense of his country. He was in possession of all his faculties until he breathed is last. About twenty minutes before he passed away he called his family one by one and bad them all good bye, using this language: "It is as clear as the noonday sky to me. There are legions of angels hovering around me." The last words he said were to his wife. He took her by the hand and said: "Mary, good bye, I am gone." when he passed away without a struggle.

The funeral occurred on Wednesday, the 18th. Brief religious services were held at the home on East Elm street at 12:30 o'clock and at Hopewell church in Clinton township at 3 p.m., Rev. Kindig of the M. E. Church, Lebanon, officiating. Interment at Hopewell.
