She was named Lucky because she was an all black cat. She had a cute little snaggle tooth. She was a long hair cat whose fur never looked neat. She was a Polydactyl cat with huge paws on a tiny body. She was all fur and paws. The first time that I saw her, she was running along the side of my house toward the back yard and I only saw her from behind. I began leaving her some food on the side of the house and moving it closer to my front porch until eventually she was eating from the front porch. That was about fall of 2002. She was very friendly after the trust was built. She would not let anyone pet her that was going in the house, but after they left the house, they could pet her. She would jump on my lap and wanted loving more than the food.

At the time, I had too many animals and decided I shouldn't bring her in. I don't like keeping animals outside (it makes me too nervous for their safety), but in my mind, I was feeding a stray, I didn't realize how soon she would become mine. She pretty much stayed around the house. I was always so worried that I would come home and she wouldn't be there. Whenever I went out of town, I would always make sure she was feed as well.

Eventually she suckered me in. There were many factors in deciding to finally bring her in. First, the neighbor hated her. He wasn't ever around animals and was upset she was in his flower bed. He asked me if she was mine, I said no, and he told me that he was going to call animal control. Second, to show her love to me, she started bringing me dead moles and leaving them on the porch. I wasn't as pleased about it as she thought I would be. Third, one day I found a big black tick on her nose. That was it, because the final reason, I loved her and wanted to take care of her.

I had tried to bring her in once before when it was snowing and put her in a bathroom since I didn't want to expose my other animals to a strange animal. That didn't work out so well, she didn't like being confined. So I had to wait until the next morning until the vet could see her first. Didn't want to relive the bathroom fiasco. I was so worried that night that she wouldn't be there. I don't know why, she was living outside my house for about 8-10 months. So I finally brought her in in 2003.

At the vet, I was going to have her fixed, but they found a "fix" scar, so that saved me a little money. She must have belonged to someone at some point, don't know why they would have let her go. They estimated her to be between 3-6 years old. But it was a guess and being that she died from old age in 2011, I think she may have been older at that time. I had her for nine years.

She did not get along with my other animals or really, they (mainly Zoe, Hemmie and Ashton H. Wynter) didn't with her. I even had to add a seperate litter box in a safe area for her. She liked to climb on the entertainment stand and hide. In 2004, I was having a party and she ran out the door. She was outside again for about 24 hours before I found her. The night out gave her a bad cold that wouldn't heal until a visit to the vet and some cortizone. During her illness, I isolated her in a guest room to recover. I moved her to my bedroom in the summer of 2005 and that was where she was the happiest.

At first she stayed under the corner of the bed, just running out for food, but eventually she got along (or coexisted) with Spicey, another rescue who lived in the bedroom since 2003. She never really ran around and played, but she loved to play with the cat toy that has a ball in a round tub that she could bat back and forth. It was her favorite...bat..bat..bat. I always knew when she was playing. She loved to pad on the fluffy bed covers and would purr loudly while doing so, it was the only time she didn't like to be petted.

She had claws and would play bite when she was inclined. She used to love to sleep on the bed beside me and would often climb on my chest and lay down. She didn't weigh anything. Once a night, she would visit Brian and flop against him for her loving. Toward the end of her life she began sleeping near the food and water. She would come to the bed every so often and wait to be picked up and put on the bed. We then called her Elevator Ducky. She would lean back and let me kiss her on the head. She was a sweet and gentle soul. She went to sleep in the corner under the bed on the late evening of March 4th or early hours of March 5, 2011. We found her about 3am.

We buried her on March 6, 2011 in the back yard to the left side of the house. In front of the tree closest to the deck. The location is about half way up the deck.
