Mrs. Jones died March 5 at her home in Barwick. Born in Atlanta, she moved to Barwick at an early age and lived there most of her life. She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in education. She loved teaching children. She was an elementary school teacher for 41 years and taught 40 years in Barwick. She maintained her love for her former students throughout her life and always enjoyed chance meetings with them. She also served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher of young children at Barwick Baptist Church where she was a member. Her interests included gardening and the Atlanta Braves. She had a very green thumb and was particularly fond of camellias and her greenhouse plants. She loved sharing her plants and blooms with her friends and decorating her own home with her fresh blooms. Her love for the Atlanta Braves began in her later years and she kept a notebook detailing events of every game and a record of each player. It was always a "good game" when they won. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Calvin Swilley Jones; her parents Fred Moses and Ludie Sanchez Bowlan; brother, Fred Sanchez Bowlan, and sister, Eloise Bowlan Gordon.
