Funeral services were held Sunday for longtime Ripley resident Keath Bennett, 73, who died suddenly Friday morning. He became ill at his East Main Street residence and was pronounced dead at Jackson General Hospital where he had been transported by the Emergency Medical Services ambulance crews.
A native of Gilmer County, he was born September 7, 1891, a son of the late Granville and Loshia Kuhl Bennett.
He first resided in Ripley in 1934 when he was transferred to the county by the U. S. Soil Conservation Service.
He was a World War II veteran, serving under General Patton with the Third Army in the European Theatre. Following his war service, he returned to his Soil Conservation post, later becoming associated with the construction business.
He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Ripley Lodge AF & AM, Order of Eastern Star, American Union, and Ripley Post VFW, of which he was a past commander. He was a charter member of Ripley Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Burke Bennett.
The Rev. Ronald Brooks officiated at 2 p.m. services at Epworth U. M. Church with burial in Pine Hill Cemetery with Masonic rites.
