Obituary:
Mrs. Laura Ann Wheatley, daughter of James and Freelove Abrams, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jan. 17, 1821. She moved, with her parents, to the state of Indiana, where, on March 26, 1840, she was joined in marriage to Mr. Allen Wheatley. To them were born thirteen children, nine of whom preceded her to the world beyond. In the year 1854 she, with her husband, came to Iowa, and settled in Story county, where she has resided ever since.

Her husband departed this life December 16, 1870, thus leaving her for these many years to bear the burden and responsibilities incident to a widow's life. Thirteen years ago she came to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Phoeby McCain, of Colo, where she was affectionately cared for until the day of her death, which occurred Jan. 22, 1909, at the ripe old age of 88 years and 5 days.

She leaves to mourn, one brother, one sister, four children, Newton Wheatley, of Fairview, S. D., Mrs. Pheoby McCain, of Colo, Miss Laura Wheatley, and Luke Wheatley, of Blackwell, Okla., twenty-one grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Wheatley was a good woman, possessing many excellent qualities of character, such as secured for her the love and esteem from all who knew her. She was converted to God when but sixteen years old, united with the M. E. church and lived a devoted Christian life until the Lord took her.

The funeral was held from the United Evangelical church at Colo last Sunday morning conducted by Rev. S. Skogsberg, assisted by Rev. Bennett of the M. E. church. Her remains were laid to rest in the Hickory Grove cemetery, five miles southwest of town, awaiting the call of the resurrection morning.
