Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Estelle Allen, 80, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2000, from Algood Church of Christ with Bro. Jim Blankenship officiating. Burial was in Algood Cemetery with the Algood Chapel of Hooper & Huddleston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Allen, a retired cook for the Putnam County school system, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at her residence.
She was a member of Algood Church of Christ.
Born February 9, 1920, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Mima Loftis Maberry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Polk Allen; two sisters, Nell Meadows and Lassie Davis; and a brother, Oscar Mabry.
Survivors include four sons, Bob Allen, Algood, Shirrel Allen, Rellon Allen, and Charley Lewis Allen, all of Cookeville; two daughters, Mary Anna Allen, Cookeville, and Dian Batey, Hazel Green, AL; a brother, Walter Mabry, Gainesboro; a sister, Dimple Mayberry, Frazier, MI; 12 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jeffery Batey, Robert Batey, David Allen Batey, Charlie Batey, Ben Batey, and William Batey.
Honorary pallbearers were Tom Hayes, Andy Alcorn, Daniel Sherrill, and Nathan Cobble.
