Claude Lewis Blackwell, Sr. is the Son of Grace Beatrice (Lewis) Blackwell Williams (1894-1976) and her first husband, Frank Giles Blackwell, Sr. (1888-1928).

He was the Brother of:

(1.) Frank Giles Blackwell, Jr. (1914-1959)
(2.) Billie Blackwell (1921-1980)

Claude married first to Frances McBride and they had two children together by their marriage:

(1.) Gwendolyn "Gwen" Blackwell
(2.) Claudette F. Blackwell

Claude married second to Mary Elizabeth Miller and they had one child together by their marriage:

(1.) Claude Lewis Blackwell, Jr.

Funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Morgan Funeral Chapel for Claude L. Blackwell, 84, Attalla, who died Saturday, July 31, 2004. The Rev. Bobby Bryant will officiate. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory is in charge.

Mr. Blackwell was a native of Houston County but lived most of his life in Etowah County. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Attalla. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20-plus years of service.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Miller Blackwell; his parents, Frank and Grace Blackwell Williams; and stepfather, C.L. Williams.

He is survived by his son, Claude Lewis (Sherri) Blackwell II, Attalla; daughters, Gwen Fitzgerald, Panama City, Fla., and Claudette Arnold Houston; aunt, Alice McEntyre, Dothan; and cousins, Sonny and Nannette Lewis, Lenlock.

Pallbearers will be Mike Vineyard, Mikey Vineyard, James White, Wally Adams and Verbon Holliday.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Gary Kwan, Dr. Debrah Reiland and the ninth-floor nursing staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Special thanks to longtime friend Merci Stowers. Also to caregivers, Charmayne Stevens and Michelle Cassell of Attalla Health Care.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
