Obituary for Victor Paul Whitney

Victor Paul Whitney, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Murrieta from renal failure and complications of pancreatic cancer.
Victor was highly regarded in his chosen field of Trust Management and Estate Planning, having once been called the "Dean of Trust Officers" by an attorney in Boca Raton, Florida. From 1956 to 1980, he held senior positions with various California banks before moving on to being President of Chemical Trust Company of Florida. He ended his career in Trust Management as Sr. Vice President of Chemical Trust Company of California in 1995. Victor was a sought after speaker and author. He published six books; "Trust Marketing Handbook," "How to Beat the Money Grabbers," "Trust Department Adminsitration and Operations,"two volumes, "Essentials of Estate Planning," "Estate Planning in the 90's," and "The Art of Trusteeship". His many professional affiliations included the National Association of Estate Planners, Los Angeles Trust Officers' Association, and the Los Angeles Estate Planning Council. Vic was very proud of his membership in MENSA, his published poetry, his artwork, his love of golf and the golf community and his Air Force military service to his county.
Victor remained active in his community throughout his life. In 1975, Vic was named "San Diego Volunteer of the Year" for his work as Chairman of the San Deigo Combined Health Agencies Drive (CHAD) and his work as Chairman of the combined United Way and Chad annual campaign. He was active on the National Board of Big Brothers and the American Cancer Society as well as many local philathropic boards and foundation.

Victor is survived by his wife Margaret (Peggy) Whitney, daughter Vicky (Whitney) Kortlang and her husband John, and his son Les Whitney and his wife Teresa, his step-daughter Karen Childs and her husband Dick of Oregon. He also leaves six grand children and 12 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 1:00P.M. The location is The Four Seasons Lodge, 29750 Willows Avenue, Murrieta, California (951-461-0071).
Donations can be made in Vic's name to the American Cancer Society; the American Kidney Foundation or Hospice of the Valleys, Murrieta, CA or the charity of your choice.

He graduated cum laude in finance from UCLA.
Married first Barbara, the mother of his two children; married Dec. 8 1967 Glenna Whitney, died Dec. 8 1999.
