MRS. MAGGIE GORTER PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY
Mrs. Maggie Gorter, 64 years old, died Wednesday March 15th at her home in Rock Valley.
She had been ill for some time, her illness dating back to an automobile accident six months ago, which resulted in a broken limb. Afterwards other complications set in which necessitated the amputation of her other limb.
Her suffering was intense but throughout her months of suffering she always maintained her cheerful attitude which made it a pleasure to care for and to visit her bedside.
Since the first of the year she had been able to get around in her wheel chair and although not well she did not become seriously ill until Friday, March 10th. This illness resulting in her death the following Wednesday.
Mrs. Gorter was born in Netherlands, March 21, 1869 and came to this country with her parents at the age of 17, at that time settling in South Dakota. Here she was married to John Cannegieter, who preceded her in death 14 years ago. They lived in South Dakota for a few years; then moved to Hornick, Iowa; in 1904 to Neleigh, Neb.; and in 1911 to Sioux County, where she resided until her death.
She was married in 1921 to Mr. L. Gorter and had since that time made her home in Rock Valley.
Survivors include the widower, Mr. L. Gorter, three sons John, Jake and George Cannegieter, of Rock Valley, six daughters Mrs. M. Harmsen of Alvord, Mrs. Hessel Roorda, Jr., Mrs. Peter Heimstra, Mrs. A. M. Oldenkamp, Mrs. John Leistra and Mrs. Paul Lems, all of Rock Valley.
