Real Estate Operator and
Farmer Dies At Home
Here; Ill Several Weeks
Thomas Pleasant Johnson, 73, prominent citizen of Hopkinsville and operator of large farming interests died yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock at his home on South Main Street.
For several weeks he had been suffering from a complication of diseases incident to his age. For more than a week there had been little hope for his recovery, since the development of uraemic poisoning.
Mr. Johnson was born in Christian County, Sept. 5, 1862, and was the son of Martha Ann Cayce and John N. Johnson, his father being one of the early settlers coming to Kentucky from Virginia. Born in a Christian family and nurtured by their associations and influences, his entire life bore distinctive marks of his early environment.
He acquired a farm on the Clarksville Pike and lived on it for years but in 1921 moved to Hopkinsville and became engaged in the real estate business with his brother, the late James C. Johnson, and was engaged with other business associates in the management of the Pennyroyal Apartment building.
On Nov. 27, 1886, Mr. Johnson was married to Elizabeth P. Steger. Three children survive this union. They are Mrs. Lucian M. Jones, Mrs. Henry H. Abernathy and John T. Johnson, one daughter having passed away March 1, 1918. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. J. D. Jones, Mrs. Luther Wolfe and Mrs. Ella Cayce, and three grandchildren.
The funeral services were conducted this afternoon at the home by the Rev. D. M. Walker, pastor of Liberty Christian Church where Mr. Johnson had been a member since early childhood. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery beneath a mound of beautiful flowers.
