September 10th, 1903
It was with terrible suddeness that the death summons came to Mr. David Campbell of the Tenth Line on Monday morning. Mr. Campbell had not been enjoying the best of health for some time, but, on the morning in question he arose early and felt in fairly good spirits. Shortly after five o'clock he drove to Collingwood with his son Alexander, who left on the early-train for his home in Chicago. Mr. Campbell immediately started for his farm and it was while nearing Nottawa he passed away. He was sitting in his wagon and without warning to the gentleman who accompanied him fell over. His death was due to heart failure. Mr. Campbell was a Canadian by birth, but of Scotch descent, his parents coming from the land of the heather in the years of the early settlement of this section of Ontario. He was born in 1836 in the township of King, in the County of York, where he lived until he reached manhood. In 1859 Mr. Campbell came to Nottawasaga, which was then sparsely settled. He located on lot 28, con 11, on which he lived until the time of his death.

Mr. Campbell was married twice, first to Miss Sinclair of West Gwillimbury and later to Miss Mary Elliott, who with eight sons and two daughters, now mourns his death. Of the sons, Alexander and William reside in Chicago, George and Norman are farming on the Manitoulin Island, while Albert, Burnett, Lorne and Thornton are at home. The daughters are Mrs. H. Morrison who resides on the Tenth Line and Miss Annie who is at home with her parents. He also leaves two brothers who reside in San Francisco, and two sisters, Mrs. W. McBeth of Stayner and Mrs. W. Sutherland of West Gwillimbury.

The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church and in politics was a staunch Liberal. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon to the West Church cemetery, the services being conducted by the pastor of the deceased, Rev. L. McLean. The deceased was widely and favorably known throughout the township and was respected by all. Although of a quite disposition he made many fast friends who now deeply regret his sudden demise. To the bereaved family the whole community extend their warmest sympathy.
