A native of N.C. he ever labored for her good and faithfully served her as a Magistrate and member of the Legislature.
A child of the convenant he in early life confessed Christ and was for many years an honored ruling elder of the reformed church. He died in a good old age and the appropriate text of his funeral sermon was "Know ye not that there is a Prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel."
