Ashley Clark was the son of Timothy T. Clark and Alace Celest Smith. He was the youngest of 9 children. His siblings are Albert, Tracy, Hattie, Herbert, Mary, Harmon, Harold, and Ruth. On May 18, 1932 he married Luella Louise Gustavel, the daughter of Heinrich Johan Gustavel and Emma Mina Forester. They had three children, Donald, Joan, and Harold.
