Eldest of 11 children of James Madison DARE, he was the older of two children of James's first marriage to 1st cousin, Mary Genetta (Janet) BRADBURN (b1827/8 in KY d abt 1848 in IL). W. Tom's family's record says born May 6, 1848 died Sep. 29, 1921.
Tom married Caroline La Turno on 28 Jun 1866 in Belleville, St. Claire Co. IL. They had 10 children, 7 of whom survived to adulthood.
According to his tombstone, Tom served in Co. D, 136th IL Vol. Inf. in the Civil War.
He and Caroline are buried in Oakwood Cemetery although much of his family is buried at S. Hickory Hill.
